USASA FOUNDATION NATIONALS ASSISTANCE AWARDS
Dear USASA Members,
The USASA Foundation is pleased to announce that 25 grants will be issued under The Nationals Assistance Award for the 2012 winter season. The Foundation was originally planning to distribute $6,000 in awards during this inaugural year, but because we received additional last-minute donations from Allisports (Dew Tour/Gatorade Freeflow Tour), Bomber Skis and other anonymous donors, we were able to double the number of athletes being supported this season.

The First Day of Competition
The first day of competition at the 23rd annual USASA Championships saw sunny skies and insane competition throughout each venue. Despite unseasonable temperatures, rising to the low 60’s, the alpine courses and pipe, as it is being cut every night, held up nicely all morning. Coaches, competitors, and parents commented on the quality of the special course builds. Coach Travis Mclain from Aspen commented “I am impressed with how well all the venues are riding. Its cool that USASA builds custom courses especially for this event.”
With 1705 registered competitors the 23rd Annual USASA National Championship began at Copper Mountain. The commencement ceremony kicked off with athletes, representing 32 regional series, parading into the awards venue. Elan Fleetwood, a 9 year old Grommet Girl’s competitor, sang the national anthem officially starting the week’s competitions. Wing Lam was awarded the prestigious founders award for his last 18 years of service at USASA Nationals.
