Hunter Carey wins USASA Nationals Freeskiing Youth Halfpipe

A fresh blanket of snow covered Copper Mountain the first full day of USASA Freeskiing Nationals competition kicked off. Despite the new snow, Open Class Skicross competitors flew through the course with Americans Morgan Haymans, Thomas Hayward and Scott Busche taking home the top three spots. Leah Emaus, Abi Zagnoli and Isabella Naughton went one-two-three in the ladies competiton. Southern Vermont Series charger, Emilia de Jounge, owned the breaker girls slopestyle competition followed closely by fellow Southern Vermont Series skier, Montana V Osinski and Aspen Snowmass series skier and KINDest Rider Award recipient, Hanna Faulhaber. Despite missing the podium, fourth place finisher Ava Surridge, from the Rocky Mountain Series, took home Windell's Camp Hardest Charger Award earning her one free session to Windells Camp

Youth and Junior men took to the halfpipe and the day belong to  Rocky Mountain Series skier, Hunter Cary, who not only took home gold in youth men but also landed back-to-back left and right 900s earning him the Columbia Sportswear's Best Trick award and $400 in Columbia Sportswear. Aspen Snowmass series skier, Chance Maytham, took second and third went to Rock Mountain Series skier, Elliot Irving, who landed a 7ft high left 900 winning the Braven Speakers Highest Air award.

The 9 and under division hit the Rail Jam under the lights with Elenor Andrews winning the girls division and Simon Miller from the Southern Vermont Series, snagging top honors in the boys division
