img_2711.jpgHi everyone this is Jackie and Mimi (Madeline), we just finished our first Nor-Am competition of the season last week at Copper Mountain, Co. We were there training for two weeks prior to the race, getting on the lift at 6 am every morning. It’s a little rough loading the chair lift while the stars are still out, but the snow was great, and we even had foot of powder one morning.
Mimi had a little bit of bad luck when she dislocated her shoulder during one of her training runs a week before the race. Luckily, she was still able to compete, but had to take it easy to prevent any further injury.
The competition was at a World Cup level this year, with racers from the US, Canadian, Swiss, Japanese and Serbian National Teams. The first day of competition was Parallel Giant Slalom. The day started out warm and sunny, which was a pleasant surprise, since last year it was absolutely freezing. Throughout the day there were all sorts of delays causing the race to finish nearly 3 hours behind schedule. Jackie and Mimi finished in 17th and 13th places respectively out of over 40 women competing. The next day we had Parallel Slalom, which ran more or less the same as the day before with delays, however we both improved our results. Jackie finished 16th and Mimi finished 11th.
Over all we had a great time at Copper getting back on snow, catching up with old friends and making a few new ones. We’ve both made our way home now, and are looking forward to a couple weeks of sleeping in and enjoying thanksgiving with family an friends before we had up to Alberta for the first of the Canadian Nor-Am Cups on the 12thand the 13th of December.
We hope everyone else out there is having a great start to the season. Happy holidays!
