Day 4 Highlights: Open Slope, Holy Halfpipe, and Boardercross!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
South Lake Tahoe, CA – March 10, 2012 – On April 2, 2012 during the 23rd Annual USASA National Championships snowboarders ages 9 and under will have the chance to compete in this premier rail jam event, presented by Burton Experience. The goal will be to foster the spirit of snowboarding within young riders by letting them compete against boarders of a similar age and skill level.
USASA team manager Miah Wheeler: “This is the first event of its kind. Instead of throwing all the riders together in a rail jam, Burton and USASA wanted this early age group to be able to have an event they could call their own.” The rail jam will allow riders, 9 and under, to session the park in open jam format and prizes will be awarded in categories such as best trick, style, and personal creativity.
It has been a while since I last wrote so I have plenty to tell you about. After the Canyons event I went straight to Canada for a World Cup race where I got my best World Cup result. I placed 5th! After Canada I went to Europe for 3 weeks. There I competed in 2 World Cup races and Junior Worlds. I placed 10th in both the World Cups and 4th and Junior Worlds.
The ‘Lil Rascals Rail Jams have been a great success with young snowboarders at the two locations where they have been held so far this winter. Presented by the USASA with support from Burton Snowboards, the two jams that have take place this season have been a hit with kids and parents in attendance. The first Jam took place in Colorado in early December as part of the USASA Rocky Mountain Series at the Frisco Adventure Park.
The second event was presented at the Jay Peak Resort in northern Vermont. Thanks to the resort’s close proximity to Quebec, the event featured an international flavor, with kids speaking English and French with their new buddies and instructors throughout the Saturday morning event.
COPPER MOUNTAIN, CO –United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) members will have the chance tomorrow (Saturday, March 29) to ride with professionals when Under Armour snowboard athletes, Chas Guldemond and Jeremy Thompson make a special appearance at the 2014 Silver Anniversary USASA National Championships.
Guldemond, a US Olympian who competed in the inaugural event of Slopestyle at the Sochi Winter Olympics will travel to Copper Mountain from his home in Reno, Nevada. The two athletes will be hitting the Slopestyle course at Copper Mountain, site of the 25th annual USASA snowboarding National Championships with young fans and competitors in tow. Registration to ride with the pros will take place at 11:00 AM at the Under Armour tent located in the Vendor Village at Burning Stone Plaza. Guldemond began his snowboarding career participating in USASA Regional events in his native New Hampshire, where his parents Cindy and Paul ran the popular New Hampshire series. Thompson started his career at Hunter Mountain, NY and participated in the Catskill Mountain Series. Both attribute their professional successes to the foundation skills they learned while competing in USASA events.
