The final stop of the 2022 Futures Tour season wrapped up at Northstar Tahoe last week with slopestyle and halfpipe both taking place under sunny skies. Tatym Smith, Eleanor Andrews, Liam Brogden and Mitch Zyzelewski won gold in freeskiing while Ollie Martin, Misaki Vaughan, Barret Hendrix and Tanner Kuch walked home with gold on the snowboard side.
Northstar put together an amazing slopestyle course for two full days of action. The men’s freeski final was a close one with Big Mountain West skier, Mitch Zyzelewski edging out New Hampshire Series skier, Michael Sheehan by just two points. This is Sheehan’s third Futures Tour podium of the season. Third place went to Campbell Burrows from The Unbound Series.
Finley Good skiing her way to bronze.
On the women’s side of things, Southern Vermont Series’ Eleanor Andrews added another Futures Tour gold to her medal collection, besting Central Oregon Series's Tatym Smith. Finley Good earned bronze. This is Finley’s first competition back after a series of injuries that sidelined her earlier this season.
Snowboarders took to the course on day 2 of the Futures Tour Northstar with three of the six podium spots going to Big Mountain West riders. Barrett Hendrix and Gwynie Park grabbed gold and bronze on the women’s side with Unbound Series rider Makayla Kellogg earning silver. On the Men’s side, local rider Tanner Kuch bested Rocky mountain series rider Luke Leal and Big Mountain West’s Nate Barber grabbed third.
When the freeskiers took to the halfpipe, Tatym Smith added to her week’s medal collection taking the win in women’s pipe. Kenna Keenan and Isla Bruland rounded out the podium respectively. On the men’s side, Southern Vermont Series rider Liam Brogden won his first Futures Tour with a big 900 on the last hit. Second place went to Copper Mountain Futures Tour winner Bennet Balogh from Big Mountain West and third went to fellow BMW skier Logan Parham.
Snowboarders rounded our an eventful week in the legendary Northstar Halfpipe. Misaki Vaughan nabbed gold with a backside 540 to frontside 360 combination sharing the podium with Central Oregon Series’ Marlo MacMillan and fellow North Tahoe Series rider Amelie Haskell. On the men’s side, thirteen-year-old Ollie Martin from the Rocky Mountain Series earned a big win over Unbound Series, Even Tomaier, and Rocky Mountain Series’ Luke Leal.
