Winterstick rider Boden Gerry from the Maine Mountain Series edged out Adirondack Series' Robbie Sinclair and Jordan Lafaut to win Futures Tour gold at Gore Mountain, NY.

Tight heats and great racing teed off the first Winterstick Futures Tour snowboard and ski cross event of the season at Gore Mountain, New York. Top honors went to Maine Mountain Series snowboardcross athletes Boden Gerry and Brianna Schnorrbusch along with local Adirondack series skicross athlete Liz Filiatrault and Big Alaska Series skier Tanner Murphy.

In collaboration with US Ski & Snowboard, the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), and Gore Mountain, Canada’s Arena Snowparks was brought in to build an elite level course for the Hole Shot (Nor-Am) and Futures Tour. The course had a technical separation feature at the top leading into an eight-turn course with two mid-course jumps and a money booter at the bottom. Preparation for the SBX/SX course started earlier this summer as trails were widened by 50 feet to make room for bigger features and courses. The Futures Tour event also acted as a test event for next January’s FISU World University Games, where 600 universities and 50 countries will be represented.

The West came East - Big Alaska Series Skier Tanner Murphy gold, Rocky Mountain Series Nick Katrusiak silver, Western Washington Jack Mitchell Bronze

Drafting off of US Ski & Snowboards Nor-Am Hole Shot tour (Feb 8-10) gave the Futures Tour athletes additional time on the course, allowing athletes to build confidence and get extra training which is so crucial for developing elite athletes.

“It’s really cool for kids to have a FIS level racing experience where some of the higher-lever Nor-Am athletes are also competing– this allows more athletes to work through heats and get great heat racing experience at the FIS level.” Mike Mallon, Executive Director of USASA said, “With our first stop, I feel we achieved our goal to help give up and coming athletes a chance to develop their skills in the US and regionally.”

Adirondack Series Skiers Liz Filiatrault and September Stefani go 1-2 with Maine Mountain Series skier Lily Day getting 3rd at Gore Mountain, NY.

The Futures Tour makes its next Snowboard and Ski Cross stop at Sunday River, ME March 3- 4 following USASA Maine Mtn Series races at Sugarloaf February 25-27.  Click here to register for either event.
